I go through phases of reading lots of fiction or reading lots of non-fiction. I happen to be in a phase of reading a lot of fiction right now. Haha. I had forgotten how much fun it is to get so wrapped up in a story that it is difficult to put the book down. When reading my non-fiction books I can pick it up and put it down with no problem most of the time. However, with this book I had trouble putting it down. I wanted to do nothing else except read this book. (Good thing there is a sequel.) I had never heard of Patrick Rothfuss. Was not familiar with his work at all. A friend from work was reading it and said it was really good so I said I would like to borrow it when he was done. Oh man, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is a must read if you like fantasy books. It was so much fun!
Pros: The story was so well written so you got wrapped up in the book and could not put it down. Amazing. The characters were relatable. There were not gaps in the story to where you wondered what in the world was going on. The imagery was wonderful. It was easy to imagine exactly what the author was describing. The creatures and the places and the people had enough description to aid your imagination and then left the rest for your mind to figure out on its own.
Cons: The first 30 pages were a little slow going. It takes you a bit to realize that the main character is telling his life story to someone. After the first 30 pages it picks up. But honestly, you just have to kind of trudge through those first 30 pages. It happens.
Overall: I loved this book. I am so excited to read the sequel. It is not a young adult fantasy. It is something that anyone could enjoy if you enjoy reading that genre. I am honestly hoping that a movie is made out of this. I would love to relive this story over and over. I don’t say that about too many books lol.
I hope you pick it up and read it. It is such a great story!
I am going to try to finish reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin before I pick up the sequel but we shall see how that goes.
